About Us

Our St. Michael's Church Family

Things have changed!

Only five years ago, if you were visiting our church for a morning service, you would have met a small congtregation of twenty or so longstanding and faithful members, who won't mind admitting to having been largely over the age of 75 years young.

We are now a more open and welcoming congregati0on, still primarily aged over 60, getting younger all the time, and we have enjoyed a steady increase in newcomers since 2019.  Even lockdown didn't slow us down too much!

Our leadership team have been attending LyCIG conferences and are embracing the 3 key dimensions of growth in our church: Spiritual, Numerical and Missional.

South Sefton Food Bank links were reintroduced in January 2020, liaising with our local Ukranian Welcome Centre on Mersey Road began in March 2022, and Sunday Club reopened in January 2023.

Save the Children (Christingle) and Sefton Women's and Children's Aid (SWACA) are also supported by us in services throughout the year.

Our leadership includes 12 PCC members who meet bi-monthly, 2 Church Wardens and 3 representatives on the Deanery Synod. We have two licensed Lay Readers who are trained to take funerals, one member of the congregation who is about to commence Lay Ministry training, and one Pastoral Assistant.

Now that we are getting younger, we have a large number of committed volunteers who visit those who are facing challenges in their personal lives and take communion to the housebound.  Our congregation participate actively, not only in services, leading the intercessions and reading the Bible passages, but in serving good coffee after the services and outside of the services, work tirelessley in our award winning garden (awarded Level 5 'Outstanding' by the Royal Horticultural Society), creating lovely flower arrangements to adorn our worship spaces ,and running a busy social schedule with organised outings happening at least once a month.  Maintainging the fabric of our building also involves a great deal of commitment from our congregation at the moment.  The church hall has been renovated to a high standard recently, and now we are all involved in raising funds to repair the church roof .  It is well in hand and will be commencing soon.
