ST MICHAEL’S COMMUNITY UPDATE

No 57: 17.3.21

INTRODUCTION

  • If you have a friend or neighbour who would like to receive this, please forward their details.
  • I also invite you to send in poems, quizzes and jokes!
  • For all correspondence please use office@stmbsands.org
  • CHURCH SERVICES

Run 2 identical services every week which will last approximately 35 minutes

  • One on a Wednesday at 10.30am. As this has a lower attendance it is better for people who are most at risk.
  • The other is on a Sunday at 10.30am. Maximum capacity of St Michael’s, allowing for social distancing is about 45.
  • We plan to film the Wednesday service, John will edit it and Nerys will send it out on the Sunday morning, so that those who are at home can watch it at 10.30am.
  • If you have any questions please do contact Nerys in the church office 0151 924 0561, or email office@stmbsands.org

ST MICHAEL’S COMMUNITY HALL UPDATE

St Michael’s Community Hall is a great facility and in normal times is used by many different groups in our community. However, the hall is now in need of significant refurbishment to maintain its suitability to match modern expectations.

Included in the repair schedule is a new roof, replacement windows, extra storage, stripping and repolishing the floor and decorating throughout.

If by next week you have not already received a booklet, please let Nerys in the church office know.

The church leaders have committed £30,000 from church funds, and we are looking to raise a further £30,000 via donations.

EASTER AT ST MICHAEL’S

Good Friday 10.30am in Church.

Easter Sunday

8.00am Holy Communion in Church

10.30am Holy Communion in Church
We will also be sending out an online service on Easter Sunday morning

7.30pm Zoom Wine Tasting Quiz

We are planning the flowers for Easter. To be Covid safe we are unable to meet together to decorate the church. After discussion, it has been agreed, it would be lovely if people could make a contribution of flowers or arrangements to be delivered to church on Tuesday 30th March 11am-1pm. This is so the Wednesday congregation can enjoy the flowers.

We look forward to a time when we will be able to gather together to share decorating Church, perhaps for harvest or Christmas. For now we have to make the best of it.

Please phone me if you have any questions. 07974 647060 or 0151 924 9816.

WINE TASTING QUIZ NIGHT

On Easter Sunday night, 4th April at 7.30pm we are holding another Wine Tasting Quiz Night by Zoom. This will be good fun and a great way to keep in touch. The whole event will last only 40 minutes, the length of a Zoom meeting.

Phil and Gen Flynn are once again our hosts. Here’s how it will work.

  1. ASAP you need to send an email to Phil and Gen letting them know you want to take part.
  2. The event is limited to 25 households taking part. So it’s the first to book.
  3. Phil will email you further details about the event, and how to get onto Zoom if you have not already registered.
  4. On Saturday 3rd April, 3 small bottles (150 ml each) of wine will be delivered to your door. You must have £10 cash in an envelope ready to collect, maintaining social distancing. Any left-over money will be donated to the local Foodbank.
  5. Late afternoon on Sunday 4th April, Phil will Email you a link to the Zoom meeting.
There will be a prize for a person playing on their own, and another for those in groups of 2 and above.

So if you want to take part send an Email to Phil and Gen at:

philflynn01@hotmail.com
He will send you an email explaining how to set up Zoom and on Friday will send another email which will be an invitation to the Quiz.

Don’t be afraid to have a go - we are all learning together. Get yourself 4 glasses, some cheese and other nibbles and be ready for a great occasion.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY by Neil

I was recently amazed by the incident when Jesus met the woman at the well recorded in
John 4.

Firstly, it’s surprising that Jesus spoke to a woman on her own in a public place…….it just wasn’t done in those days! But Jesus treats women with great value throughout the Gospels.

Secondly, it’s surprising that Jesus spoke to this SAMARITAN woman…….it just wasn’t done in those days! But Jesus treats this Gentile person not as an outsider, but as an insider.

Thirdly, it’s surprising that Jesus offers this woman of questionable morality eternal life…….and that wasn’t done in those days!. The fact that she had had 5 husbands and was living with a sixth didn’t bar her from his love or stop him offering her forgiveness and eternal life.

Christians don’t follow Jesus because he was a good chap, but because he is amazing. He doesn’t treat us as we deserve, and always better than we imagine. That’s why Jesus said he came to seek and save the lost.

BRAIN TEASER

Below are five (5) questions. You have to answer them instantly. You can't take your time, answer all of them immediately. OK?  Let's find out just how clever you really are .

Question 1 :

You are participating in a race. You overtake the second person. What position are you in?

-Answer: If you answered that you are first, then you are absolutely wrong! If you overtake the second person and you take his place, you are second!

Try not to mess up in the next question.

To answer the second question, don't take as much time as you took for the first question.

Question 2 :

If you overtake the last person, then you are...?

Answer: If you answered that you are second to last, then you are wrong again. Tell me, how can you overtake the LAST person?!

Question 3 :Very tricky math! Note: This must be done in your head only. Do NOT use paper and pencil or a calculator. Try it.

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10. What is the total?

Did you get 5000? The correct answer is actually 4100.

Don't believe it? Check with your calculator! Today is definitely not your day. Maybe you will get the next question right?

Question 4 :Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Tana, 2. Tene, 3. Tini, 4. Tono. What is the name of the fifth daughter?

Answer: Tunu?

NO! Of course not. Her name is Mary. Read the question again

Question 5 : There is a mute person who wants to buy a toothbrush. By imitating the action of brushing one's teeth he successfully expresses himself to the shopkeeper and the purchase is done.

Now if there is a blind man who wishes to buy a pair of sunglasses, how should he express himself?

He just has to open his mouth and ask, so simple.
