ST MICHAEL’S SCHOOL-Retirement Service for Dr Hulme.

Sadly, Dr Hulme has had to retire due to ill health. I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you for all he has done for the School, for St Michael’s Church and for our community.

I recommend you watch the 30-minute moving service with contributions from many people you will know

Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard when he lives in the jungle without a razor?

Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are flat?

Why do banks charge a fee on 'insufficient funds' when they know there is not enough?

Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?

Whose idea was it to put an 'S' in the word 'lisp'?

What is the speed of darkness?

Why is it that people say they 'slept like a baby' when babies wake up every two hours?

If the temperature is zero outside today and it's going to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold will it be?

Do married people live longer than single ones or does it only seem longer?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Bev Boden is having a plant sale in her garden, 40 Spinney Crescent, L23 8TZ, all this week (24th -28th) 9am-5pm. Perennials, Herbs and Tomato plants. All proceeds go to the Children’s Society.

There is an amazing incident which is recorded in the Book of Acts 16v25-34.

  • Paul and Silas were in prison, in lockdown, in their own time of crisis.
  • Whilst in prison they prayed and worshipped God
  • God intervened in their situation

What happens next is a little unexpected.

Rather that taking their new found freedom and leaving the broken prison doors as fast as they can, they hang around to care for both the physical wellbeing of their distraught jailer and to help the jailer and his family know and respond to the hope of Christ.

The Church has always evangelised its way out of a crisis.

As we continue to emerge from 'lockdown' let us be sure that we hopefully and joyfully hold out the message of Good News we have in Christ, and help people to respond to that Good News.
