Welcome and Notices

We know that God loves us,

so let us pray for ourselves and for others.

We are God’s family, filled with the Holy Spirit,

so let us worship together.

Jesus has told us to ask God for what we need,

so as God’s children we pray.

Lighting the Second Advent Candle

Advent is the season of the year when we think about Jesus coming: the first time as the baby in the manger and the second time when we expect him to come again in glory and power, as our king.  There are 4 Sundays in advent and we light a candle each week up until Christmas to remind us that Christ is the light of the world and without him we would always live in the darkness of sin.

Advent Collect

Almighty God,

give us grace to cast away the works of darkness

and to put on the armour of light,

now in the time of this mortal life,

in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility;

that on the last day,

when he shall come again in his glorious majesty

to judge the living and the dead,

we may rise to the life immortal;

through him who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever? Amen

Lord, when we have failed to recognize your presence;

Lord, have mercy.

Lord, have mercy.

Lord, when we have failed to recognize the needs of others;

Christ, have mercy.

Christ, have mercy.

Lord, when we have not responded generously to the call of the gospel;

Lord, have mercy.

Lord, have mercy.

May the God of love, bring us back to himself, forgive us our sins and assure us of his eternal love in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Reading 1 Tim 6 v 12-19

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords,  who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honour and might forever. Amen. Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

This is the word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Talk by Lucy part 1

Heavenly Father, we ask that you fill the hearts of children living in extreme poverty. We ask that they would hear your voice calling them out of hopelessness and despair toward your great love. Please equip them with your knowledge and empower them with your wisdom to break the cycle of poverty in their lives. Amen

Heavenly Father, We lift up all those who are facing various illnesses including Covid 19 , cancer or dementia. Give them the hope and courage they need today and every day. Comfort their pain, calm their fears, and surround them with Your peace.  We ask this in the name of the great Healer, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord’s Prayer:

Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.
