Welcome and Notices

Lord, speak to us

that we may hear your word.

Move among us

that we may behold your glory.

Receive our prayers

that we may learn to trust you.

Amen.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said:
The first commandment is this:
‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
With all your soul, with all your mind,
And with all your strength.’

The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’
There is no commandment greater than these.
On these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophets.
Amen.  Lord have mercy.

Confession
Father eternal, giver of light and grace, we have sinned against you and against our neighbour, in what we have thought, in what we have said and done, through ignorance, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault.
We have wounded your love and marred your image in us.
We are sorry and ashamed and repent of our sings.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us, forgive us all that is past and lead us out from darkness to walk as children of light.
Amen.

Absolution
Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Reading:  Genesis 2 v 8-17
Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

This is the word of the Lord
Thanks be to God

Prayers
As we meet under the shadow of the cross we ask you to help us to understand something more of what it cost you, to bear away our sin, that we might gain eternal life.
Help us to love and serve you as you deserve
Amen

We remember before you those who exercise authority amongst us and influence public opinion in Church and State, in industry and commerce; all who speak to the nation through broadcasting and the press; and all who have power over the lives of others.
Grant them humility to seek your guidance and the courage to do your will. May they use their influence not for themselves but for the good of those they serve
Amen.

Let us say together the Lord’s Prayer:

Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of the Lord be always with you...
And also with you.

Communion

The Lord is here.
All   His Spirit is with us.

Lift up your hearts.
All   We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All   It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is right to praise you, Father, Lord of all creation;
in your love you made us for yourself.
When we turned away you did not reject us, but came to meet us in your Son.
All   You embraced us as your children
and welcomed us to sit and eat with you.

In Christ you shared our life
that we might live in him and he in us.
All   He opened his arms of love upon the cross and made for all the perfect sacrifice for sin.

On the night he was betrayed,
at supper with his friends
he took bread, and gave you thanks;
he broke it and gave it to them, saying:
Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.
All   Father, we do this in remembrance of him: his body is the bread of life.

At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine, he gave you thanks, and said:
Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins; do this in remembrance of me.
All   Father, we do this in remembrance of him:
his blood is shed for all.

As we proclaim his death and celebrate his rising in glory, send your Holy Spirit that this bread and this wine may be to us the body and blood of your dear Son.
All   As we eat and drink these holy gifts make us one in Christ, our risen Lord.

With your whole Church throughout the world we offer you this sacrifice of praise and lift our voice to join the eternal song of heaven:
All   Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

Prayer after communion
Father of all, we give you thanks and praise, that when we were still far off you met us in your son and brought us home.  Dying and living, he declared your love, gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory.

May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life; we who drink his cup bring life to others;
We whom the Spirit lights give light to the world.
Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us, so we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name;
through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Blessing
May the Son of God, who die on the tree lead you to the tree of life  and the blessing of God Almighty, Father Son and Holy Spirit be among you and remain with you always
Amen.
