Welcome and Notices

I was glad when they said to me

“Let us go to the house of the Lord”    Psalm 122v1

In the name of the Father and the son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Confession

If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves

If we confess our sins God is faithful and just to forgive us.

So let us turn to God and confess our sins in penitence and faith.

We need your healing, merciful God; give us true repentance.

Some sins are plain to us; some escape us, some we cannot face. Forgive us; set us free to hear your word to us; set us free to serve you. Amen

Absolution

Grant, we beseech you, merciful Father, to your faithful people pardon and peace that they may be cleansed from all their sins and serve you with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Talk by Neil - Part 1

Bible Reading: Jeremiah 7v1-8

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Stand at the gate of the Lord’s house and there proclaim this message:

“‘Hear the word of the Lord, all you people of Judah who come through these gates to worship the Lord.

3 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Reform your ways and your actions, and I will let you live in this place. 4 Do not trust in deceptive words and say, “This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord !”  5 If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly, 6 if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not follow other gods to your own harm, 7 then I will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your ancestors for ever and ever. 8 But look, you are trusting in deceptive words that are worthless.

Prayers

We pray Lord for all those for whom life has no obvious pattern at this time.

We think today of those who are starting school with the benefits of routine and challenge this will bring to our young people.
Be with us as we struggle to find a new way of living and being your people within the constraints imposed on us. Amen

O Lord God, make the door of this church wide enough to receive all who need human love and fellowship but narrow enough to shut out all envy, pride and strife. May  its threshold smooth enough to be no stumbling –block to children nor to straying feet but strong enough to turn back the tempter’s power. O Lord make the door of this church a gateway to your eternal kingdom. Amen

Lord’s Prayer:

Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.
