Interview with Val

"How lovely is your dwelling place,

   Lord Almighty!

My soul yearns, even faints,

   for the courts of the Lord;

My heart and my flesh cry out

for the living God.”                 Psalm 84

Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with us

and also with you.

Hymn: Soldiers of Christ arise

Compassion and forgiveness belong to the Lord our God, though we have rebelled against him.

Let us then renounce our wilfulness and ask his mercy by confessing our sins in penitence and faith.

Wash me thoroughly from my wickedness
and cleanse me from my sin:
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Make me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me:
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.

Cast me not away from your presence
and take not your holy spirit from me:
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
who in his great mercy
has promised forgiveness of sins
to all those who with heartfelt repentance and true faith turn to him:
have mercy on you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and bring you to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Bible Reading: Acts 1: 1-8 read by Anne

In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.

After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Prayers by Joan

Lord, when we feel the world is against your church, help us to believe You can bring good out of evil. When we are being attacked and crushed from all sides, remind us of Your faithfulness to use everything for Your glory. May we not fear but trust in Your provision for our church family and increase our faith in your providence.  Amen

Lord, thank you for the community of St Michaels to which we belong; for its strength and its challenges. Thank you for those who have been alongside us in the struggles of life and especially during this difficult period. Help us to see all people through your loving gaze and to speak of your love beyond these walls to those in our wider community.  Amen

Lord’s Prayer:

Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen

How we will administer Holy Communion next week

Loving God, we thank you for hearing our prayers, feeding us with your word,
and encouraging us in our meeting together.

Take us and use us
to love and serve you, and all people,
in the power of your Spirit
and in the name of your Son,

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
