Welcome and Notices

Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
and also with you.

Loving God, we have come to worship you.
Help us to pray to you in faith, to sing your praise with gratitude,
and to listen to your word with eagerness;
through Christ our Lord.

Where our praise is short or silent,

all creation sings out with joy.

Here we join creation’s song

We praise your name O God.

Brothers and sisters, as we prepare to celebrate a New Year

let us call to mind our sins.

Lord God, our maker and our redeemer, this is your world and we are your people: come among us and save us.

We have wilfully misused your gifts of creation;
Lord, be merciful:
forgive us our sin.

We have heard the good news of Christ, but have failed to share it with others;
Lord, be merciful:
forgive us our sin.

We have not loved you with all our heart, nor our neighbours as ourselves;
Lord, be merciful:
forgive us our sin.

May the God of love and power

forgive you and free you from your sins,

heal and strengthen you by his Spirit,

and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.

Reading: 1 Corinthians 2v1-5

And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.  I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling.  My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

This is the Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God

Song: Bless the Lord oh my Soul

Affirmation of Faith

Let us declare our faith in God.

We believe in God the Father, from whom every family
in heaven and on earth is named.

We believe in God the Son, who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us
with power from on high.

We believe in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Amen.

A Prayer for the New Year

Our Father, as we stand at the beginning of this new year we confess our need of Your presence and Your guidance as we face the future.
We thank you for your goodness over this past year in time which has been difficult for us all.
You alone can give us the strength we will need to meet the challenges of this new year. So help us to humbly put our hands into Your hand, and to trust You for the future.
This we ask in the name of our Lord and Saviour, who by His death and resurrection has given us hope both for this world and the world to come. Amen.

A Prayer for Faith, Hope, Love, and Service

Almighty Lord God,
give us true faith,
and make that faith grow in us
day by day.

Also give us hope and love,
so that we may serve our neighbours
according to your will;

through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.

We say together The Lord’s Prayer:

Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, For ever and ever.

The love of the Lord Jesus draw you to himself,
the power of the Lord Jesus strengthen you in his service,
the joy of the Lord Jesus fill your hearts
and the blessing of God almighty the Father, the son and the Holy Spirit be among you and remain with you always. Amen
