Hymn : Come down oh Love Divine

Welcome and Introduction

We are having a series of 5 services thinking about our environment.

Opening Sentence

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” Rev 4 v 11

Opening Prayer

Blessed are you, Lord God,
creator of heaven and earth.

Your Word calls all things into being,
and the light of dawn awakens us to life.

May your wisdom guide us this day
that we may cherish and care for your good creation,

and offer to you the sacrifice of our lips,
praising you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The following confession is based on a compilation of scripture verses.

The land mourns: and all who dwell on it languish.

The beasts of the field, the birds of the air: and even the fish of the sea are perishing.

For the earth is scorched with fire: the air polluted, and the waters choked with waste. The ice melts and the seas rage: the waters surge and floods devastate the land.

The water springs are silent, and the steams run dry: the green places are a dry land where there is no water. The fertile ground is exhausted: the land has become a parched and windswept wasteland.

The holy cities have become a wilderness: Zion has become a desolation. So turn us again, O Lord: and come to our help. Drop down, O heavens, from above: and let righteousness rain down upon the poor.

Let the earth open: and let wholeness and healing spring forth. Then the wilderness and the dry land shall be glad: the desert shall rejoice and blossom.

The mountains and hills shall break forth into singing: and the trees of the forest shall clap their hands.

Lord have mercy, we have failed to be good stewards of the earth you entrusted to us.

Gracious and tender God, our story is marked with failure and faithlessness. Yet you long for this story to be otherwise. We thank you that you desire to forgive us our sins. We thank you that you can see redemption where we cannot. Teach us to trust in your forgiveness. In Christ’s name Amen

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty the King of Creation

Reading: Psalm 148

Praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon;
    praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens
    and you waters above the skies.

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for at his command they were created,
and he established them for ever and ever—
    he issued a decree that will never pass away.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
    you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,
lightning and hail, snow and clouds,
    stormy winds that do his bidding,
you mountains and all hills,
    fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all cattle,
    small creatures and flying birds,
11 kings of the earth and all nations,
    you princes and all rulers on earth,
12 young men and women,
    old men and children.

13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for his name alone is exalted;
    his splendour is above the earth and the heavens.
14 And he has raised up for his people a horn,
    the praise of all his faithful servants,
    of Israel, the people close to his heart.

Praise the Lord.

This is the word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Hymn: Praise and thanksgiving

God our creator, create in us a new heart,

a new understanding, a new way of living.
God our Redeemer, rescue us from the brink of disaster,
open our eyes to see the dangers that lie ahead.
God our Sustainer, equip and energize us,
to hold fast to the changes that we need to make.

O Lord, giver of life and source of freedom, we know that all we have received is from your hand. Gracious and loving God, You call us to be stewards of your abundance, the caretakers of all you have entrusted to us. Help us to always use your gifts wisely and teach us to share them generously.

We say together the Lord’s Prayer:

Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory,

For ever and ever.  Amen.

The Peace

God calls us to peace:

in God’s justice is our peace.

Christ calls us to be God’s people:

in Christ is our peace.

The peace of the Lord be always with you.

And also with you.

Let us stand to affirm our commitment to care actively for God’s creation.

Lord of life and giver of hope,
we pledge ourselves to care for creation,
to reduce our waste,
to live sustainably,
and to value the rich diversity of life.
May your wisdom guide us,
that life in all its forms may flourish,
and may be faithful in voicing creation’s praise.

Hymn: For the beauty of the earth

May God the Father,

who clothes the lilies of the field
and feeds the birds of the air,
provide you with all we need for life in its fullness; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you always.
