Verse for the week: The heavens are telling the glory of God;
and the firmament[a] proclaims his handiwork. Psalm 19 v. 1

Week Commencing October 21st : We pray for the residents of Spinney Crescent, for the community life of this road and for neighbourliness. We pray too for all children on half-term holiday this week, for their safety and for fine weather to build them up before the winter. This week we are asked to be aware of those with specific illnesses, like breast cancer, post-polio syndrome, kidney problems, lupus and heart disease; and so we pray for all those suffering in these ways, that they may be aware of God’s healing touch upon their lives. Finally, we pray for the work of the Bible Society in translating, publishing, and distributing our treasured Holy book.

Prayer for the week: We pray for the work of the United Nations, which we remember on the 24th. God of compassion, walk alongside all of your global stewards who work to create a more just and peaceful world. Equip the United Nations community with a sense of urgency and humility that lets your will be done. Each day you give bread enough for all, grant us also the wisdom to ensure that everyone has enough. Teach the world’s leaders to forgive, to extend welcome across borders. Show the world a new path beyond greed, oppression, and division. We pray for a world united. We pray for the power to save succeeding generations from war. We pray for a glory that reaffirms the dignity and worth of every person. We pray that your grace might ensure life in larger freedom forever, for all of your children. Amen. Verse for the week: Then he said to them, “Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent. Mark 3 v. 4

Week Commencing October 28th: We pray for the residents of Sunningdale Drive, especially those who are lonely and live alone. We give thanks this week for all who serve us in our homes: for cleaners, window cleaners, postmen, gardeners and care workers, without whom our lives would be more difficult or even impossible. We give thanks for our treasurer and those who work in finance at St James’ House and at St Michael’s school. We pray for those students of St Michael’s and Valewood schools who have learning difficulties and for those who have responsibility for teaching them.

Prayer for the week: Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: grant us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living that we may come to those inexpressible joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Common Worship Collect for All Saints)
