St Michael’s Blundellsands - Parish Administrator

Post:  10 hrs per week (p/t) based on site and operating in the parish as required  A 2 year fixed term contract (possible option of extension depending on funding) with 6 month probationary period.

The successful candidate will provide general administration to support the efficient functioning of the Parish.  A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and familiarity with office systems will be necessary.

  Job Description   Parish Administrator

 Responsible to:          Priest in Charge and Church Wardens

Location:                    Based on Church site and operating in the parish as required

Hours:                        10 hrs per week (p/t) flexible with some regular days and one evening  bi-monthly

A 2 year fixed term contract (possible option of extension depending on funding) with 6 month probationary period.

Wage:                         Living Wage   

Job Purpose: To provide general administration to support the efficient functioning of the Parish

Main Duties

  1. Set up and maintain the Parish Office including administrative/ filing systems  
  1. Undertake general administration duties to ensure the efficient running of the church and church hall
  2. Develop effective communication systems with those in and outside of the church including website, weekly notices, posters outside etc.
  3. Provide secretarial and administrative support for the Priest in Charge , Reader, Church Wardens and Treasurer
  4. To undertake the duties of secretary to the Parochial Church Council and to support the Standing Committee of the PCC.
  5. To undertake the administration related to the Annual Parochial Church meeting (APCM)
  6. Other general administration duties as required.

 

Person specification

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate that they meet the following criteria which are essential requirements for the job unless otherwise specified:

  • Experience and ability to undertake a broad range of administrative duties effectively.
  • Ability to work on  own initiative
  • Effective communication skills, face to face, on the telephone and in writing
  • Strong planning and organisation skills with an ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with information of a confidential nature
  • Computer literate including familiarity with Microsoft Office and e mail and websites
  • Some knowledge of current practices and procedures related to a Church of England Parish eg Safeguarding, disability law, canon law would be desirable
